Finally, I'm back in the studio painting furniture! I've had this little pine chest for awhile. I had two of these chests because they make the perfect bedside nightstands and everyone always says they want two. I painted the pair in greys. But in this case, only one sold! So, I repainted the one that didn't sell in my favorite indigo blue colors.

Even though it was already painted, I sanded and painted the piece with two coats of tinted primer. Then I 'sloppy' painted on the indigo blue latex paint with the lighter color peeking through.

Layers of blue with dry brushed browns
Since it had layers of paint on, I didn't want to sand down to the bare wood to distress it. Instead, I dry brushed a dark brown and a sienna over it. To tone down the bright color of the indigo blue, I wiped on a dark antiquing glaze. The piece is finished with a durable acrylic sealant in a satin finish.

I painted the drawers with a white with one coat. I didn't want to cover the grain. The handles are iron that I have painted black and sealed up so they won't rust.
I am really loving this color and the rustic, distressed look of this little chest! If you are interested in buying it, click on this link to my shop!
Till next time!
